The NIAAA Quality Program Award
A former physical education teacher with the Webster Central School District in Webster, NY, Jeffrey Alger recently concluded a 4-year term with the North Tonawanda, NY, school district, where he served students as athletic director. The position involved oversight of all physical education activities and health and program services. Jeffrey “Jeff” Alger has engaged with various professional groups during his career, including the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) offers a variety of professional development courses and certification opportunities. The organization also manages the Quality Program Award (QPA), a means of recognizing high school athletic administrators who excel in each of the NIAAA's 10 assessment categories. All NIAAA and state athletic administrator association members with CAA designations and completed LTC 799s may be considered for the award, which was first given to Salt Lake City area athletic directors Kathy Butler, Kathy Eskelson, and Ronnie Stubbs in 2009.
QPA winners, including 2018 winner Mike Ellson, CMAA, of the Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, are honored at the annual National Athletic Directors Conference. Winners receive plaques and banners, which demonstrate their commitment to ongoing program quality improvements. Furthermore, the award can be utilized as a CMAA certification project.
